About Artists North Dakota Virtual Gallery
The idea for ArtistsND began in 2006 as my project for Rural Leadership North Dakota. As a relative newcomer to North Dakota at that time, I recognized that, everywhere I visited, there were folks crocheting, carving wood, painting, beading, quilting, weaving, snapping pictures and doing other creative things. Each year, hundreds of these people gather at regional fairs to showcase and sell their wares, but their customers were limited to those within driving distance of one of the events.
“Wouldn’t it be great,” I thought, “if they could expand their market beyond the local fairs?”
So I directed my spare time to that effort, telling every artist and crafter I met about my idea and gathering information from those who were interested in joining ArtistsND. So far, there are over 70 people from North and South Dakota and Minnesota who want to be featured on the Web site.
With the help of Dr. Tom Isern and Dan McCullom from North Dakota State University, we will videotape our artists in their workshops and studios. We hope that you will enjoy meeting them. We even hope that, if you are an artist, you might consider relocating to our region because it is such a great place in which to be an artist.
This is the beginning of the project, the pages and videos of a handful of what I hope will grow into the hundreds. Please open our pages, meet our artists, and see what I have seen in their works. I hope that you will be moved to select some of their works to come to your home.
Please keep coming back to visit, because we will continually add more artists and their. Most of all, thanks for stopping and shopping.
Oh! If you’re in Washington, DC, check out the
Agraria Restaurant. It is decorated with photographs by three of our members, Ken Schmierer, Lynette Durheim and Lian Mowry. Help us spread our work throughout the world by hanging our artwork in your restaurant, too.
Sincerely, Patricia Bowen
